Xilisoft DVD Ripper Ultimate FAQs

  • Q:
After I load my DVD into the program, I can only see the titles of it. How can I see the chapters in each title of the DVD?
  • A:
Please check "Show Chapters" option from "Edit" menu to show or hide the chapters of your DVD.
  • Q:
How can I get the subtitle of the DVD which I want in the final output file?
  • A:
Before you start ripping, please check the "Subtitle" box, which can be found on the top. It will show all the subtitles that your DVD has. You can select one of them you like for ripping.
  • Q:
After the conversion is done, I found that it is not in the correct audio track I want. What I want is French, but I get English. How to correct it?
  • A:
In the "Audio" box, all the audio tracks can be found. Please select the one you want before you start ripping.
  • Q:
How can I modify the settings on the right panel of the interface for my conversion job? Should I just use the values which the program has offered or should I enter a number which I want directly? But after I click "Start Ripping", all the options I modified will return to the default ones. Why?
  • A:
Before you modify something, you must highlight the item of your DVD, chapter or title which you want to rip in the program. Besides the values we have offered, you can simply enter a number you want for the conversion for most output formats, such as video and audio bit rate, frame rate, and video size, etc. But sometimes, it would be limited by output format as well as some other conditions.
  • Q:
After I make some proper modifications on settings, is it possible to save it as a single profile so that I can use it directly each time?
  • A:
It can be done by the "Save As" button. After you finish the modifications, please click this button and finish other jobs following instructions. After the profile is created, you can delete or re-name it as you like.
  • Q:
I just want to backup my DVD on my PC. What is the best choice of the output format for me to choose? I just want to play it on my PC and I would like to get the smallest size with better quality.
  • A:
Generally speaking, we recommend AVI output by our program. The default codec for AVI in our program is DivX, which can provide better quality as well as smaller output size. If you just want to backup your DVD on your hard drive, you'd better select AVI.
  • Q:
I just want a clip/segment of my DVD. Is it possible?
  • A:
Yes. You need set "Start Time" and "Duration" to get the clip you want. First of all, you should highlight the tile of your DVD, which includes the main episodes of the movie. And then enter correct values for "Start Time" and "Duration", which can be found on the right. Panel of the interface For example, if you want a 3-minute-clip from the 10 minutes of the whole movie, please enter "00:10:00" for "Start Time" and "00:03:00" for duration.

  • Q:
After I finish the conversion to AVI, I can only get the audio playback in Windows Media Player while it shows that I need download certain codec. No video can be watched. Why?
  • A:
The default codec for AVI output in our program is DivX. If you do not have this codec installed on your PC, you will not be able to play the file. Please download DivX codec from www.divx.com for free. After the installation, Windows Media Player will be able to play AVI files produced by our program.
  • Q:
When I try to convert my DVD to WMV format, or other PPC options, the program simply and quickly shows "Complete" for the conversion. But the output files are only in a few KB, apparently not playable. Why?
  • A:
Please check the version of your Windows Media Player. If it is not V10.0, please get it upgraded from www.xilivideo.com. It is free.
  • Q:
After I convert my DVD to PSP, what should I do to get the output files transferred to my PSP properly so that I can watch the movie on it? Do I need to rename them?
  • A:
We offer a small tool in the "Tool" menu of the program. It can help you transfer files, both mp4 and THM into PSP easily and properly. The Manager program will help you rename the files automatically so that PSP will recognize them.
  • Q:
Should the PSP audio files, MP3, be also transferred by certain Manager programs?
  • A:
No. Please just copy MP3 files into the "MUSIC" folder, one of the sub-folders under "PSP" folder. For example, if the removable drive number for your PSP is "F", please copy them into "F:\PSP\MUSIC". If you can not find it, please create such path yourself.
  • Q:
I have properly connected my PSP with my PC and my PC has recognized my PSP as removable drive. But when I select it in the PSP Video Manager, the Manager will still show "Your selected drive is not a PSP". Why?
  • A:
Please check the folder path on your PSP. If you have connected it successfully and your PC has recognized it as a removable drive, please open it through your PC. You should be able to find a folder called PSP on it. And in the PSP folder, you should have two sub-folders, MUSIC and PHOTO. Please have a check. If you do not have such a path, please create it yourself. Maybe you have deleted them before.
  • Q:
I have successfully transferred the output PSP files to my PSP with PSP Video Manager. But it says "Corrupt Data" when I try to watch them on my PSP. Why?
  • A:
Did you modify certain settings in the conversion job, such as "Frame Rate", video "Bit Rate" and audio "Sample Rate", etc? If it is so, you must not enter a value of your own in this situation. You should only use those which we have offered in the drop-down list. The values we offered are what PSP can support. If you enter other numbers, PSP will not recognize the output files.
